Spring rose wreath

With Spring just around the corner, I’ve been playing with colours and using up some of the materials lying around my craft room.  The result is this Spring rose wreath!image

The colours are inspired by Pantone’s Top 10 Colours of Spring 2016 and I love the fresh combination of light pink, coral, navy, cornflower blue, light blue, yellow and lime green.

There’s no real pattern for the stripy wreath covering.  I used a mixture of Patons Smoothie DK (light pink, navy, cornflower blue and lime), Rico Essentials Cotton DK (coral and yellow) and Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK (light blue).  With a 3.5mm hook, I started with a foundation chain of 20 and worked rows of half treble crochet, alternating colours every second, third or fourth row.  I used each colour three times, until the work stretched around my 17cm polystyrene ring.  I then sewed the ends of my work together, stretched it around the ring and sewed the long sides together at the back of the ring.

I knew I wanted to decorate my wreath with an oversized flower and hit Pinterest to find a suitable pattern.  I settled on a large rose pattern from Kati Crafts and used the coral Rico yarn to make this stunner.  I improvised a few leaves with the Patons lime yarn and sewed them, along with the rose, to the wreath. image

Finally, I attached a metal ring to the back of the wreath so that it can be hung easily.image
