Southwold garland

This Summer we went back to Southwold in Suffolk, a place very close to my heart.  We were there for two weeks and I took plenty of yarn to keep me busy, including some DMC Natura cotton that came from Kath Webber‘s recent de-stash.

A couple of years ago James bought me issue 79 of Inside Crochet which featured one of Kath’s patterns for a Southwold garland so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to dig out the pattern and make a garland whilst in Southwold with Kath’s yarn!  IMG_3310

Kath’s pattern features beach hut, ice cream, crab and bucket motifs.  I didn’t have enough red yarn to make a crab and I didn’t really like the proportions of the bucket so I stuck to beach huts and ice creams.  I made four beach huts in different colours, and three ice creams in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry (all the best flavours!).  And while we were on holiday the lovely Sarah Shrimpton from Annaboo’s House released a free pattern for a starfish so I made a few of those too.IMG_3320

This was the perfect little project for our holiday.  It was nice and quick, and I really enjoyed using up the bits of yarn from Kath.  On our last morning in Southwold I had a little photoshoot of the garland in our beach hut, looking lovely in the sunshine.IMG_3369

The garland is now hanging in my craft room and is a lovely reminder of a very special place.  Oh and the bucket I made didn’t go to waste – it remained in the beach hut in Southwold to spread the crochet love!IMG_3346

What a cute and fun garland!! It will be a nice reminder of your vacation. And it was really sweet and thoughtful to leave the bucket behind to make someone else smile. 😀
