Crochet x cross stitch

Recently I’ve been intrigued with the idea of using crochet as a canvas for cross stitch.

I first stumbled upon this footstool by Rose Hip on Pinterest a while ago and loved the combination of a floral cross stitch pattern with a plain crochet stool cover.

I pinned several other examples for inspiration, including this gorgeous baby beanie and jar covers:

I had planned to make more of my little crochet bunnies for the Paperdolls Handmade Spring Market and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to have a play with cross stitch on their little jumpers.

I used one of my mum’s old cross stitch pattern books to stitch a basic flower motif and I embroidered them before stuffing and joining together the bunnies so that I could hide all of the knots and untidiness inside (I’m not the neatest embroiderer!).

I really love how these bunnies turned out – they’re perfect for Spring!

I can’t wait to have a go at embroidering on another crochet project – maybe a clutch bag inspired by this iPad cover by

I love this idea too ! I have made a clutch bag for my sister using the tunisian crochet technique.

  2. Sounds fab! I’ve never tried Tunisian crochet but it’s on the to do list!
